Creole Thrift

Over the weekend I decided to explore Houston. I cruised up and down the streets from the Galleria area up around Montrose. Oh my goodness! I found sooo many cute boutiques and little shops. And I found a decent Half Price Books. When my hubby and I lived in Austin we would make it our Saturday ritual to stop by Half Price Books off Lamar and then head over to Phil's for the best burgers & sweet potato fries in town.
Well, I haven't found a good Half Price Books yet. Until this past weekend in Houston. I bought a book while I was there but didn't have a chance to read it until last night. It's called, Creole Thrift. It's awesome! I love Angele Parlange's decorating style. And she loves to thrift shop like me. She grew up on the Parlange plantation in Louisiana and she has a cute writing style. Not only is it a decorating book but a biography. Pralange Plantation is one of the oldest in the state of Louisiana. WOW, could you imagine growing up on a plantation? She's one lucky gal! Not only did I find a decent Half Price Books but I also found a cute clothing shop with all sorts of cute funky but fun clothing. I love this jacket.

What did you think of Austin when you lived there? My boyfriend and I are thinking of moving down there (if we can find jobs). We're from Michigan, but I have a soft spot for the South (I spent some of my childhood in Arizona and LOVE LOVE LOVED it). We're both very interested in the amazing live music scene as well. Obviously, I'm already sold on the city...but I'd like the opinion of a native :)

I loved Austin! It's so beautiful and there's so much to do in the Hill Country. It has a small town feel but has access to a big city lifestyle (very unique). They have a ton of funky shops and cool restaurants. Austin is very laid back compared to Dallas or Houston. Also, it’s not as humid in Austin as Dallas and Houston. You have so much around you too. Fredericksburg is less than an hour’s drive and they have wineries, shopping, and great festivals. Huge lavender fields where you can pick your own lavender and buy lavender soaps, wine, etc…And San Antonio is just down the road. My hubby plays guitar and is really into music (from New Orleans). There are all sorts of great bands. You could literally go see a live band 7 days a week. We lived in Austin for 4 years and I’m really going to miss it.

Antone's is the place to see great bands. I try to catch Marcia Ball (New Orleans gal) and Carolyn Wonderland (Houston gal). But we've seen B.B. King and Doc John and some of the greats play there. You'll love Austin.

I love exploring new cities. Finding little random shops is the BEST. The book is so pretty. I'm sure I'd love the funky clothing shop.
