The Mighty Mississippi

Hi Everyone! I missed y'all in blog land. I've been super busy with the big transition from Texas to Mississippi. I absolutely love living in the Magnolia. It's good to be back in the "Deep South." Once I finish putting the final touches on the house I'll be sure to invite y'all over for a quick tour (via photos).

As most of y'all been watching on the nightly news the Mississippi river has reached record breaking levels. It's been a sight to see. I've seen the Mississippi flood it's banks before but nothing like this. The water is exciting and scary all at the same time. Luckily we live far enough from the river that we don't have to worry about the flood waters but I feel horrible for the people over in Vicksburg. It's a sad situation. It's been a real eye opener as we have watched all the flooding and tornadoes rip through the southern states. Life is so precious and no matter how much technology has advanced us we'll never be able to control mother nature.

Last week the Mississippi river finally crested. My husband had business over in Dallas so we cut through Vicksburg. Since we were driving right over the Mississippi river we decided to stop and take a look from the banks. You'd be surprised how many people were lined up along the banks trying to get a quick peek of history in the making. I'd thought I'd share a few of my pictures with you.

This is after we drove across the bridge. This pictures is taken after you look down from the bridge. This is normally up very high and is over dry land. I noticed little stumps peeking above the water line in a row. It took a moment to figure out what they were but they ended up being electric poles.

It's difficult to see but if you look halfway across the bridge you'll see a rooftop from a house that is submerged under the flood waters. I couldn't get a better close up with us traveling on the highway.
They did report alligators swiming up in areas near town looking for dry land. I tried to look for a gator but no such luck. I have seen alligtors along the Atchafalaya River Basin. I always get excited when I spot one but I never seem to have my camera :(

Good news, our Cajun friends down in the Bayou of Louisiana are ok. They escaped the water all together. Thank you for all of your prayers. It pays to pray!
